Gulliver's Travel


Hello. My name is Taichi Kouga. I would like to post about the summary of Gulliver. I have known name of Gulliver since I was a child, but I did not know the detail until we read about it in class. I'm happy to be able to understand the Gulliver because this story is very interesting. The author is Jonathan swift who was born in Dublin, Ireland. The book was sold out in the first week. Gulliver travels into several remote nations of the world in four parts, including a voyage to Lilliput and Brobdingnag and Lepta and country of the Houyhnhnm's. Gulliver meets strange people and animals in each island. That is interesting. Thank you for your reading.

Shakespeare


Hello. My name is Yuka Saito. I would like to post about Shakespeare. I like ‘romeo and Juliet ’. There are two reasons. First of all, the story made me feel sad, but their true love drew me into the story. Although the irony of fate tore a pair of lovers apart, their love is eternal. Second, when I read the story, I was able to know the then Italy. I like a scene that romeo and Juliet met at the dance party because I was interested in gorgeous culture. Shakespeare had a talent for representing not only sadness but also wonderfully love. Thank you.

Hello. My name is Mina Iriguchi. I would like to post about the Gulliver's travel picture. I had readed Gulliver’s travels when I was a child. However it was a picture book, so I could not enjoy all chapters. In addition, I have not known that Gulliver goes to four nations in the world and ‘’ Laputa” of Japanese movie comes from the Laputa in the story. The picture is the one scene in Brobdingnag where Gulliver faces big people. What I was impressed in the chapter is the scene of the little quarrel with the King and Gulliver. They are arguing about guns. I thought there are some differences between culture and a way of thinking. Gulliver’s travels is interesting because there are some travels and some discoveries from Gulliver’s point of view. Thank you.

Hello. My name is Ayano Yoshimoto. I would like to post about the Beowulf movie. I hadn't ever seen Beowulf. I was surprised at a powerful video. It was described the world that I image as I read fantasy of appearing a monster cleary. This movie gives me not only reality of history but also research of historical background. I would like to learn about Anglo-Saxon and Denmark and Sweden in century of 5 or 6. I'm interested in Hygelac and Offa and a fight of Finnsburg. I would like to see Beowulf again. Gulliver's Travel

Hello, my name is Mami NODA. I would like to post about the Gulliver's Travel movie. When I was a high school student, I read this novel. Then I couldn't finish reading all, so I discovered a new view point. I'm sure that the Gulliver's Travel is known as a British Literature among people. If I were Gulliver, I want to go to Lilliput because I can over look a row of houses, streets and people in Lilliput. If you don't still read Gulliver's Travel, I recommend that you read this novel. Hello. My name is Ayako Kuzumi. I would like to post about Shakespeare because I like Romeo&Juliet very much. I watched the movie last year in Ms. Suzuki's class. I was impressed by it so I was looking forward to the class of Shakespeare. This movie is 1968's film version and the casts are Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey. It was a great hit. The stuffs won many awards. I also like 1996's film and Leonard Dicaprio appears on it. The movie is more modern than 1968's film. The author of these successful movies is Shakespeare. Hello. My name is Nagisa Kawamori. I would like to post about William Shakespeare. I studied about "Henry V" in class, but there are many plays and sonnets written by him. The genres are comedy, history, tragedy and more! I specially like "As You Like It" and "King Lear". They are so fun and romantic story. Glliver's Travel

Hello. My name is Mina Hattori. I would like to post about Gulliver's Travel movie. Jonathan Swift was Irish protestant and he was essayist, satirist. Gulliver's Travel is a satire on political circles. There are some themes in Gulliver's Travel. Differences between religions, ancients versus moderns, European government and the nature of man. I read the story and most impressive part was A Voyage to the Country of the Houyhnhnms. I interested yahoos. They are terrible apes. They are very low but everybody have their feelings, I think. The country's rulers are hoses. Regrettably, in the book, there was not A Voyage to Laputa. Laputa is scientific utopia. The story concern irony of Isaac Newton. Swift was protestant so he hate science. In Japan, the story became a movie as Laputa of the frying island. The movie tell us science progress is important, but it makes people unhappiness. People should take care of nature.

Ikuko Aoyama Gulliver's travel

Hello. My name is Ikuko Aoyama. I would like to post about Gulliver's Travel. I was not interested in Gulliver's travel at all until I read this book. After I read it, I thought I should have read it when I was younger. Especially, I like the travel to Houyhnhnms. It is shocking! I could not get the situation first. What's Yahoo? I read the chapter some times and pictured to myself. Yahoos look like human-beings but are Savage, stupid and lazy. On the other hand, the ruler, horses are intelligent. When I understood it, I thought Swift knew what was really important for our life and satirized the society. The most impressing thing in the story is that there is no word for untrue in Houyhnhnm's language. I found that I often do not say true things unconsciously. Thank you.

I knew Shakespeare and Romeo and Juliet on English and American literature history in first year student for the first time and I was not interested in it until then. The story was written in 16th century. Montague had only one son, Romeo, one of main character and Capulet also had only one daughter, Juliet. Both family stood in the opposition. However, one day, Romeo went to the party of Capulet family and he met her. They fall in love soon and married, but both families disagreed their marriage. This thing brought about sad destiny. I have known him as a playwright of the four large tragedies and some comedies, so I was surprised that he is also well known as a poet. This time, I want to introduce one of his comedies, “A Midsummer Night's Dream”. It was written in 1594. There are lovers whose father is against, lover’s friends, six workmen for a marriage, and two fairies in forest, but the relationship of characters changes because of love potion from fairies’ quarrel. Hello. My name is Asami Sugiyama. I would like to post about the Julius Caesar by Shakespeare. This is kind of tragedy. Julius Caesar is known by everyone. Of course, I’ve known him since I learned him at high school. This is Roman plays, and based on true events from Roman history. The title is “Julius Caesar”, but he is not main character in this story. He appears in only three scenes, and he is killed at the beginning of the third act. The main character is Marcus Brutus. Four men is very hard to study, so they promise that they never fall in love with women.
However one day, they encounter beautiful four women.
They fall in love.
they try to hide the truth, however they cannot.
I don't know the end of this story, I am going to search it.

This story includes dramatic forms that two groups opposed to each other and young people ware at the mercy of struggle. They ware devoted to each other, but they ware not permitted because of their opposite position. At the last, they had a sad ending that they died and their parents knew the truth, they reconciled. Gulliver's Travels


Hello. My name is Toshiki Nakagomi. I would like to post about Gulliver's Travels. I had a misunderstanding about it until I read it in class. I thought that this story was about a giant's travels, but Gulliver actually is a normal person. He gets to many strange countries, for example, Lilliput where too small people live, Brobdingnag where too big people live, Laputa which is a city floating in the sky, and the country of Houyhnhnms where intelligent horses and ugly creature named Yahoos live. I've never read Laputa, but the other travels were exciting. This story is not only story of adventure, but is also satiric novel. Therefore, kids and adults can enjoy reading this book. I think such a book is valuable.

Hello. My name is Maiko Taniguchi. I would like to post about the Shakespeare. I did not know well until I have this class and his literature I know was Romeo and Juliet only. However, I am interested in Shakespeare's literature especially Macbeth, King Lear, Hamlet and Othello. Each literature is bad end and main character is killed by someone or oneself. In addition, those literature is written hate, sadness, hatred and cheat between people. I was thought emotion which people certainly have influence other people, so it may be dangerous. However, I learned important thing. For example, there is a phrase, "To mourn a mischief that is past and gone. Is the next way to draw new mischief on" in the Othello. when I listened the phrase, my thinking was very positive. thus, we can learn various things from Shakespeare's literature. Hello. My name is Yumi Oishi. I would like to post about Gulliver’s Travels story. I have never read or see this Gulliver’s Travels story before I take this class. But I only knew this name and he is very big man. After read this story, I realized my thought was wrong. He often travels and his boat was wrecked. Then he reached some strange country like Lilliput that has many little people, Brobdingnag that has many big people, Laputa that is country of the sky. This tales are loved by wide generation. On the other hand, there are many satires about government politics in this story. I think it is easy for every child who studying English to read and I recommend it because Gulliver’s Travels is really exciting story!

Beowulf in old English is heroic story, and the movie of Beowulf in 2007 is dark heroic story. If you do not know this story, you should watch both stories. Beowulf fought monster and dragon, and he dies. We do not know why he died. Beowulf was written around AD 680 and AD 800, and it is a historical literature. I want to study Beowulf more, and I want to know his mystery.

I thought that Gulliver is so big people, but it was not true. In fact, Gulliver traveled around the world, for example, Lilliput where small people live, Brobdingnag where big people live, and the country of the Houyhnhms where speaking horse and Yahoos live.　He felt a lot of differences of each country, and I think those things refer to the real world at that time. Today, people can see the Yahoo and Laputa made by studio Jiburi, these things come from the Gulliver travel story. Swift’s accomplishment affects many things, and it is very wonderful.

Hello. My name is Yuki Warashina. I would like to post about the Shakespeare. Shakespeare is one of the most famous author. He wrote a lot of works. He wrote not only plays, but also novels. I know the Romeo and Juliet since I was child. Henry ⅴ is one of his works. I did not know about the Henry ⅴ until I learn about it in class of British Literature. Henry ⅴ was written in 1599. Beowulf

Hello. My name is Haruna Masui. I would like to post about the Beowulf. I have seen a movie’s preview of Beowulf previously. However, I understood content of the story in class. Monsters appear in the story are so terrible. Beowulf who knocks down such monsters is brave. He never made his gains use of his power. He saved the Danes and Geatland’s people from fear of monster and beast. He is a genuine hero for them. It is the impressive scene that Beowulf fights Grendel’s mother in her underwater lair. I haven’t thought that Angelina Jolie performed Grendel’s mother. I wanted to see “Beowulf” in Movie Theater.

Henry V


Hello. My name is Hazuki Yanagisawa. I would like to post about Henry V. I have known about Shakespeare’s other works, but I did not know about Henry V until I learn in the class. I was interested in this story when I learned Henry V. This story is about the life of Henry V, who was a king of England. He fought bravely against France at The Hundred years War. He made a speech for soldiers of England to raise the morale of them, so they struggled in this war to win. Finally, England won this war miraculously. I was so moved by this story. Especially, I like the scene of speech of Henry V. The video I added is about this scene. It makes me cheerful and encourages me. So I recommend watching this video. Thank you.

Gulliver's Travel





Hello. My name is Naoko Kobayashi. I would like to post about Gulliver’s Travel. Gulliver’s Travel is very different from my image I have had. At first I thought that Gulliver’s travel is the book which only children enjoy, but the book contains many things. I was surprised at the story because it tells us some topics; politics, philosophy of science and mathematics, nature of man, right of the unfortunates. The story of chpter4 says that foolishness reflect human, and I was shocked to understand that. I didn’t know that Gulliver’s Travel includes that moral. I was also amazed at Jonathan Swift because he idealized the role of U.K. and British navy. It is great experience for me to read Gulliver’s Travel. Thank you.

Summary of Beowufl


Hello. My name is Kohta Suzuki. I would like to post about the summary of Beowulf.

The Danes who lived in Hrothgar's kingdom had been feared many years by Grendel, a terrible demon. When a man who named Beowulf heard about this situation, he decided to defeat the demon. One night when a feast was hold Grendel appeared there and he fought against Beowulf. Beowulf succeeded to beat Grendel. However, while he was prized by Hrothgar, Grendel's mother came to the land to revenge her son. When Beowulf noticed her murder, he fought against her in underwater lair and killed her. Thanks to Beowulf ,the land became peaceful.
After those accomplishment, Beowulf came back to his home town and ruled the country as a king.
When he became an old man, a great dragon emerged and scared people in his country. The old king fought against the beat. Even though he killed the dragon and protected his country, the wound in this battle led his death.
After that, his body was burned and buried in a place over looking a sea with a massive treasure.

Despite of this epic was written in Old English and its author has not been known, Beowulf has been regarded as a great story. So, I was lucky to study this literature in class. Recently Beowulf was produced as a movie. If I have a chance, I would like to watch it too. Thank you.

Macbeth

Hello. My name is Riho Suzuki. I would like to introduce Macbeth because I went watched drama of Macbeth last year. Macbeth is one of the Shakespeare's four tragedies, and it is the shortest work in them. At the same time, it is considered the most unlucky drama at all of Shakespeare's plays. In this story, there are described the downfall of the man who planned to deprived of the throne. Above picture is the poster of the play I watched. It was made for the children, so it was very intelligible for me. I would like to recommend to anyone going watching some play for children because of it's understandable. Thank you.

Romeo and Juliet



Hello. My name is Aya Kawae. I choose Romeo and Juliet that was written by Shakespeare. This story is a kind of tragedy. Romeo and Juliet loved each other. Someday, Romeo was forced to leave, so Juliet planed to pretend to die to bind with Romeo. This plan finished with sorrowful end. Romeo had the mistaken idea that Juliet die actually, and he killed oneself by taking poison. Juliet felt deep sad, and killed oneself too. I like this story the best in his works. I added a video about a one part of scenes in the story that Romeo and Juliet met again in front of Juliet's room. That is my favorite scenes in this story. Thank you.

The Merchant of Venice



Hello. I am Yuki Zama. I decided the Merchant of Venice as my topic because I read this book last year. Since I read a consideration book of Shakespeare’s script, I came to love Shakespeare. Shakespeare expressed people’s emotion very well. Not only he wrote the leading character’s emotion, he also wrote supporting character’s emotion very well. I thought that is his best point. In Merchant of Venice, Shylock(supporting character) was expressed so humanly, so I could understand his thinking easily. In addition, Shakespeare expressed people evenly. That is his good point too. Shylock was a wicked person, but he was troubled with being Judaist. Antonio(leading character) was a polite parson, but he looked down on Shylock. That is very interesting. I want to consider about Shakespeare’s intention. If you have some idea, let me know! Thank you.
